Wine Specials From 8/25-31st, 2015

WINE By Chris & Tony :

1) Brut French sparkling from ANDRE DELORME, these splits ( 187ml bottles ) make perfect gifts as they are dry and tasty and balanced, from France, with also a dry rose, and only $3.49 a bottle. We keep them chilled here always.

2) Malvasia Bianca 2012, this ' Giancola ' from TENUTE RUBINO On Special now while these limited supplies are available at $10.99. Chris and I both really enjoyed this, a treat and value as well. Dry, from Italy's Salento region in Puglia, with 13.5% alcohol, this has character, flavor and taste and will hold it's own against many a meal, a delight, really tasty. Come buy some and check it out!

3) Carmenere 2012 from Chile's Maule Valley , a Reserva from CASAS PATRONALES, $10.99 a bottle, with 14% alcohol by volume, this was quite impressive, a well-balanced, well-stated wine that will complement many a grill outside these days! I liked it, so did Chris. Concentrated fruit flavors that burst forth and please.

4) Catarratto and Pinot Grigio grapes in this organic grape ' Terre Siciliane ' PURATO 2014 dry white blend, $13.49 a bottle. Tasty, balanced, great to enjoy now in this heat and good for us, too! Love it and it has the ladybug image on it, too.

5) Bordeaux Superieur 2010 ( great vintage for Bordeaux wines ), this CHATEAU DAMASE , $15.99, with 85% Merlot and 10% Carmenere and 5% Petit Verdot is a really balanced, tasty and medium-bodied dry red to enjoy now with a meal as more of it's flavors are in evidence and maturing nicely now to delight and stimulate our palates when combined with a good meal. Chill 30 minutes before serving.

6) Cuvee Rose DESIDERIO JEIO , $17.99, Vino Espumante from BISOL in Italy's Veneto region, famous for making Prosecco, also makes this delightful dry version that a good density of rose color to withstand and complement many a flavor and a nuance of taste in most meals, or all by itself, to enjoy closing your eyes and simply sipping slowly and smiling inwardly into the space around us, satisfied, satisfaction!

7) Riesling Vino Rudimir MARGUS MARGI, $24.99with 12.2% alcohol by volume, this Great Morava from Serbia is a hearty and dry and angular, real columns of flavor and taste that need food to fill the spaces in between and to flesh this wine out, so-to-speak to make it's union with food and the palates of those tasting and enjoying truly memorable. A flavorful dry and thick, denser, more rustic Riesling. Cheers.

8) Red 2010 Ramat Negev dry red Israeli blend from the SOUTHERN WINERY of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, $28.99 a bottle with 14% alcohol by volume, this is a fruit-forward, bright and deeply-textured/layered red that is not kosher from Israel, but what a treat, what a delight. You all loved it here when we tasted it here last. For a nice occasion : summer, vacation, now, be proactive : make today the special occasion, live a lot, a whole lot!

WE STARTED LAST NIGHT, the moon was amazing as it was able to shine through the deep and cooling cloud cover above after the skies showered us all heartily in cool and refreshing thousands of wet water pellets, nice.

I was sitting with my neighbor enjoying a glass of TENUTA TOMASELLA Friuli wine, the " Rigole ' Rosso 2012, $19.99, from Venezia with 85% Merlot and 15% Refosco is drinking really well now. Katarina said to me : " Sit down and enjoy thee glass of wine. I invited you to enjoy a glass of wine with me. " For more info on the two dry whites and the dry reds go to : Raya Imports, Hillside, IL, and : @TenutaTomasella www.TenutaTomasella @Friuli, @RogoleRosso @AziendaAgricolaTomasella @MansueItaly ... caio, grazie Annette e Craig ...

We had just been planting her ferns in her backyard. It was beautiful. The butterflies were out flitting from butterfly bush to butterfly bush, all the lilting and cascading shades of yellow, beautiful. Mesmerizing, and so calming all of this. We were hot, it was a hot afternoon and we had worked up real sweats digging in mostly-rock topsoil and so it took much more effort as we try and bring back this barren soil to more life and richness. Katarina also made an enclosure to start a compost heap and that will also help.

It was okay, it was all really okay, it was beautiful really. I was luxuriating in the moment as I buzzed around finfing more glasses, more crackers and cheese, matches to light our citronelle candles, as I was anticipating the arrival soon of my daughter and wife and Katarina's husband, too.

" It's just a glass of wine, relax. " Katarina added. " I've already enjoyed three crackers with goat's cheese. "

I responded that it was important to celebrate and really enjoy the moment, that it was more than a glass of wine. It turned out that it was, too as they all arrived, everything was set, I invited everyone to dinner, and started the grill for our salmon and then it started to pour from the skies above and everything moved inside. Except for me, I grilled the salmon outside and the rain was like my shower that I needed from the planting of the ferns earlier : completely rejuvenating and refreshing.

We enjoyed besides the excellent Estate-Bottled TOMASELLA some rose from a magnum, the Chateau PIGOUDET Classic dry Provence rose, from Aix en Provence, $49.99 On Special, delicate and really refreshing, a beauty.

We then passed to some of the STONE HILL Winery 2012 Norton which is an indigenous grape variety from the United States, a real American grape variety, $24.99, and it sure was smooth and silky and lovely and we drank the whole bottle and wished that there had been more.

We also enjoyed the GATEWAY to Vinho Verde that we have On Special here for only $5.99 a bottle, with only 9.5% alcohol by volume, that has become richer and creamier in it's citrus-rind and textured nuances like a lovely grip and grist and grin of these Portuguese flavors with just a splash of frizzante and sparkle! Great to enjoy as we sat outside before the torrents of waters fell from our skies above!

We still have all of these here at the store if you want to try any of them yourselves as this week promises to be beautiful with only a chance of more rain on the weekend?
What a treat.

Be proactive and party and enjoy and relax some more while all the signs are right. Remember what Rosie O'Donnell said to Meg Ryan in the movie " Sleepless in Seattle " : " It's a sign. " Let this be a sign for all of us.

My idea is to squeeze all the last drops of summer and vacation out that we can before Labor Day arrives! Why not?!? The weather is beautiful and all the signs are still right to relax, feel good, re-energize, and re-flame and get all that we possibly still can before the grind and the drill and the routine of lots of hard work and little play sets back in.
