December is a great month with so many holidays to celebrate with family and friends, : we love them all, that is what makes up the tapestry here of the United States Of America.
WE need to celebrate our being alive and here in the United States , and being a country that still affords many opportunities.
WE cannot let our differneces bring out the mean and the ugly in us, that is not a way to move positively forward, we cannot grow in hatred and negativity.
SO : come and be a part here. Do not spread comments like : " They are not laughing now ". THat is a really negative comment, not one that is friendly and from which to grow in a positive manner.
PLEASE COME and be a part of our store, our community, our neighborhood here of Cleveland Park. We all need to be aware that these are serious times, and that the health of ourselves and our community is paramount. Things are not good here for our business community. I have heard many rather desperate, last-ditch comments made to me by many here, not encouraging to us maintaining a prosperous and healthy, lively and bright community.
THIS IS SAID not to alarm but to alert us all to the fact that we need to support more than ever all our small businesses here if we want things to grow and prosper!
MOVING ONE STEP FORWARD at a time, feeling good about it, too, let's see what we have besides sparkling wine to tempt you all?!?
BEER & CIDER from Santos :
BEER - 5 From WICKED WEED Brewing  :
     1) ' Old Fashioned ' barrel-aged ale , brewed with oranges and cherries, $12.99, for a 12,7 Fl Oz bottle, , with 10% alcohol, will warm us all up with this cool weather and wet drizzle now.
     2) " Xibalba ' barrel-aged Imperial Pumpkin Ale with Cacao nibs, chiles and spices. 12.7Fl Oz bottle, with 9.5% alcohol by volume, this should soother our possibly frazzled nerves?!? Cheers!
     3) ' Tyrant ' double red India Pale Ale, On Special for $6.99 , what a value, for a 500ml bottle, two! And with only 8.5% alcohol by volume, this is a great place to start to warm-up, feel a lovely glow, to feel inspired and fired and famously good!
     4) ' Dark Angel ' Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial Stout, $12.99 for a 12 Fl, Oz, 12.7% alcohol by volume bottle  : this will be good to watch the moon tomorrow night as it peaks out from the thick cloud covering of last night!
     5) ' La Bonte ' Tart Farmhouse ale with figs, $11.99 with 6.5% alcohol by volume, for this 500ml bottle, ... and perhaps with some ' figgy pudding, too' ?!?! I think so, perfect fit, perfect timing, the weather screams - cries Mary, calls Harry for these now. Yes!
     ALL from Ashville, North Carolina.
COME TRY THEM - buy one of each, have a beer-sampling tonight?
TWO Hard Ciders from BOLD ROCK :
     1) Pear Cider / hard cider from BOLD ROCK, made with New Zealand pears, On Special for $9.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce bottles, with 4.7% alcohol by volume, Virginia, naturally gluten-free, : " inspired cider blend of New Zealand pears and local Blue Ridge apples."
     2) ' Virginia DRAFT 'Hard Cider, an amber apple cider from BOLD ROCK, On Special for $9.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce bottles, with 4.7% alcohol by volume, " " a smooth and mellow cider made from a blend of local Virginia apples. "
LIQUEUR / LIQUOR From Jagir :
     1) Cassis liqueur from Virginia's Middleburg, MT. DEFIANCE distillery, try this incredible, rich, lush, vibrant, amazing Creme de Cassis, one of the very best that I have had in years, $34.99, 375ml bottle, with 23% by volume, .... I love this, what a treat! Highly highly recommended.
     2) KOLOA Kaua'i Spice, the original, from Hawaii, a Hawaiian rum with natural flavors and caramel color, On Special for $41.99 a bottle, a deep golden burnst caramel color that invites closer inspection, with 44% alcohol by volume, this flavor is so hearty, so robust, so intense that it is best when cut to soften the blow and the edge and the burn and the grip and roll that is so athletic on one's palate, and not all of us are atheletes either! Tasty, enjoy.
     3) ' Breakfast gin ' from FEW in Evanston, Illinos, $41.99 a 750ml bottle, with 42% alcohol, this intrigues me so just by the name! Is it the cure for a hangover?!? Probably not, though that makes sense, too? The question here is how elegant and smooth is it, or hearty and vigorous to ' wash-out ' our systems well after a Hard Day's Night! Let's ask Paul McCarthney or Ringo Starr?!?
WE JUST DID a tasting of the FEW Rye and Bourbon here this past Friday. Both were really appreciated, we sold both. The Rye was the favorite, for me the Bourbon was my favorite as it displayed more versatility with more highs and lows in range, and also a longer finish.
TWO ' New ' Local DC Spirits :
We just had master distiller Matt Strickland of the District Distillers here on U Street NW pouring all four of their current spirits : rum, bourbon, gin and vodka, we introduced the rum this Saturday.
     1) ' Corridor ' Vodka, On Special for $26.99 a bottle, with 46% alcohol by volume, Batch 2, ... this one really spoke to me on Saturday, it was my personal pick of the four ; recommended. Thanks Matt!
     2) ' Buzzard Point ' Colonial style white rum, On Special $27.99 a bottle, Batch 1, with 46.7% alcohol by volume, ... very smooth, really soft and bright, easy, many customers loved this this Saturday. Come check it out.
THIS WAS MATT'S second tasting here and he will be back again!
WINE From Chris & Tony -
          TWO Whites -
     1) VOLTI FACI Vinho Regional Alentejano, dry white, $19.99 a bottle, perfect to enjoy now as it is cooler, there is dampness in the air, and this just smoothes everything out so nicely! Yes!
     2) Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett, 2013, from Germany's Mosel, On Special $16.99, so silky, so lush and bright and fresh and pleasing- sooo right, by itself or with many a meal. This is a great holiday wine, highly-recommended!

CONTINUING From Yesterday's Store Email for our Dec 7th, 2016 BUBBLY Wine-Tasting :
TABLE # FOUR : Introducing Libby Edwards W/ La Sabbiona & Cantina Della Volta Lambrusco di Sorbara Spumantes : And Two Still Wines -
          Starting with the two still ( non-sparkling ) wines : A Red and a White -
     1) ' Famoso ' indigenous grape , 2015, La SABBIONA, $22.49, Amy recommends : " Soft cheeses, even with some funk, too. Great seafood-medley wine . " Lots of distinct taste and flavor. undeniable character, will stop your palate and make it retaste and retaste once again!
     2) ' Centesimino ' rosso. red , an indigenous grape variety thought extint. Discovered recently in a back vineyard , ( two vines only! ), and these vines have been clipped to make new vines and so there are now a very few making a still, non-sparkling version of Centesimino to ofer us all. Have with white meats like veal and pork, but even pizza and pasta sez Amy! I tried these with Amy and Libby, as well as the Italian rep from Sorbara, loved them all, loved their stories. Wonderful tasting, and so I wanted to feature them here on the 7th of December.
THREE Sparkling Espumante Sorbara Lambrusco wines : Divo and La Sabbiona -
     1) DIVO ' Famoso of La Sabbiona , a 2015, : " More body, more richnes,, with great stone fruit qualities ' sez Amy. I Liked it, I liked it's unique character, the mouth-feel, the starkness, barkness, the howl and the whine and whistle, the bricks and mortar, the flame, flash, flair and overall unique flavors : excellent for a meal, cries for a meal!
     2) Lambrusco Rose di Modena Brut, using 100% Lambrusco di Sorbara, a delicate, ethereal, gossameric subtlety of delicately refined, nuanced flavors to gice one's palate the perfect stage to become completely transparent and pure, love it, $35.99, a treat.
     3) Lambrusco di Sorbara 2009 from CANTINA della VOLTA,  a true Ancestrale, mothode champenoise, $28.99, a darker red color, more flavor and weight, more backbone, and boy does it maintain it's bubbles and finish way after one swallow, allowing one to wallow so blissfully, to linger, to languish, to become completely, utterly happy , content and transparent!
These are exceptional, what a treat, something new and exciting, what a wonderful group of five from Sorbara.
TABLE # FIVE : We have Narayan Campbell and Noah Stevens pouring New Zealand & French Sparkling -
ONE Fine Sparkling Kiwi wine -
     1) " Elestree ' Cuvee Brut Non-2010 Vintage from Marlborough, New Zealand, an amazing bottle of sparkling, memorable, something to notice, that makes a definite statement of quality, flavor and that again really lasts long on one's palate.      1) LEMONSCATO = Lemon + M ( Moscato ) , $16.49,  a cocktail aromatizzato a base di prodotti vinicoli , alcohol is 6%, from Canelli, Italy, : fun, refreshing, fruity, easy, festive, a party all by itself, love sparkling Moscato cut by the lemon to make it soft and supple on the palate, not tart or tangy, but great ' mouth-feel ' here, I like it, so do you all, many of you anyway. A great palate-cleanser here for all the serious bubblies!
     2) MAMAMANGO = Moscato + mango,, $16.49 a bottle,  with 6% alcohol by volume, fruity, full, lush, ripe, delicious : anyone that likes Mangos will love this, I do, so much fun, easy, pleasing, tasty.

     1) SAINT GREGORY Brut Mendocino non-vintage,, $36.99, made by a third-generation Italian family, a blend of 26% Pinot Blanc, 38% Pinot Noir, and 36% Chardonnay : I was literally blown away by this : the complexity, the the concentration, so many livels to catch your palate, made you stop, make you register, smile, grin, ... try again : ahhhh, same satisfaction yet intensified still yet, highly recommended. A real American treat. World-class.
TWO Fine Frenc Champagnes from LEGRAS & HAAS : Grand Cru, NM ... from the village of Chouilly, I really enjoyed both thoroughly.
Grand Cru means 5% or less of the best- the finest grapes grown in all of Champagne.

Election Night For Next President Of The United States of America, Yes, Let's Get United, Join Us Tomorrow As We Celebrate ...

Cleveland Park WineCleveland Park Beer, Liquor & Wine
Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits
THANK YOU From The Bottom Of Our Hearts Veterans for your invaluable service to all of us here in the United States of America. We greatly appreciate what you have done for us, the freedome you have secured for us, the incredible sacrifices you all have made individually, as well as as a whole, to ensure that we all here in America live and enjoy better lives. Thank you, gracias, grazie, merci and ' thanks ' in all the other languages of peoples that have come to live here peacefully in our great country even with so much divide that we need to unite and build bridges to cross and mend and grow from, not walls as Pope Francis just said recently. I love that, amen.
BRIGHT, BRISK, FRESH and BEAUTIFUL as we star start this day and go off and vote before starting work. My wife and I already did, a great - grand relief to have done so. As my wife said to me : " We did what we could. " So true, I agree wholeheartedly , and feel a relief that this chapter of our lives is soon coming to an end, hopefully by the end of this day and night, perhaps into tomorrow?

1) The First Female President of the United States Of America , or the
2) First President that has not been involved in politics before , run for office of any kind, and more.
WE WILL CELEBRATE HERE TOMORROW ' THE NEXT ' President of the United ( Not Divided ) States Of America, : COME JOIN US here on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 9 5:30-8:30PM, #FreeWineTasting of 30+ Wines from @LiebCellars in  New York State, , and @VinumCellars In California, as well as the fine wines of Italy, Spain 7 sherries!, Portugal, Germany, Armenia, ... and more. WE WILL POUR excellent wines for our holidays to help us celebrate and grow and mend our differences, use our talents to unite together and to all prosper.
WE WILL THANK our veterans for their invaluable service individually as well as collectively for all of us here living in the United States.
HERE IS WHAT we will offer for you all to taste tomorrow. Please come, please invite your friends and let us make this an event and all of us come together as one.
ABOVE I QUOTED JOHN LENNON in his song : " Imagine ' : " I ma be a dreamer, but I know I'm not the only one. " I like that message as with both dreaming and reality, we can work more as a unifed whole to better life for everyone, we all have grievances and concerns that need to be heard and answered, we still have time. Perhaps the best is still to come, I would like to think that this is possible still. So join us tomorrow.
TO QUOTE MY WIFE over this last week, she spoke to me about how in this election cycle we have not ever stopped to think about that a female might be elected by the end of this day that is a female. I have thought of it a whole lot, I see the enormity of this, the implications, the defining moment that it will be if it does happen.
BUT HEY, ENOUGH about that all now, turning to our six fine poureres and their fine wines:

COME BY ANYTIME TODAY and through these next eight days, we are here 4 u!

ON ELECTION DAY tuesday 8th, 2016 we will turn a chapter that will start our next step as a nation ...

Big-Theme, Northern Hemisphere Wine-

tasting to welcome the next president of the united States of america ...   as well as ...

celebrate our 2016 holidays , yes, free, join us! six tables 30 wines, a treat, come decide

WE ARE HERE ALWAYS for you, never doubt that, and always tell us how we may better help you? WE need to hear from you, it is a two-way street, so please tell us any concerns and ways in which we may better serve your needs, desires, interests, hobbies, leisure times, private and intimate times, too : as we have all kinds of spirits under the stars, moon, trees, mountains, clouds to help relax and smooth your frazzled nerves into a more comfortable and enjoyable mood and ' place  - space '.

WE HAVE MANY NEW IDEAS to implement here, to stay fresh and pertinent, relevant, and to always bring a smile and positive vibes when you think of us. We want you think of us often and with love and joy - gladness, wellness, comfort and with trust that we are here for you, that without you we could not be here!
SO : PLEASE DISH with us, whatever it may be : DISH It UP 4 Us!
ONLY EIGHT MORE DAYS till the elections, and on many levels it will be a relief to move forward into our next chapter as a nation. It is very hard to think and know that there may be a lot of trouble to face once the election results are tabulated and final, once that everyone agrees to move forward as one nation and to mend our divides , heal many our wounds, and try and work as a team and not against one another.
WE HAVE SPIRITS GALORE to help you along, you choose which ones, we make recommendations, we do it together as we always have, and we move forward .... one for all, all for one. Grin and bear it all, agree to disagree, that there are so many ways to turn an argument, spin results, see things.  Seeing a larger picture is something that always helps me, it really does, was thinking that as I drove to work this cool morning after Halloween night.
HOW WAS HALLOWEEN for you all? Was it grand? Did you all say BOO and SPOOK someone?!? What costumes did you don? What treats, what tricks were up your sleeves?!? We had many at our home. I did six spray-paint images of spooks anf gooks to celebrate the occasion.
WE HAD THE CUTEST trick-or-treaters to start the whole Halloween moment off : so small, so adorable, so animated, excited, cheerful, loved their outfits - costumes, it was a joy, a treat for me to see them all, to open our front door and to start everything off really well. And they came before it got dark : the parents waited patiently on our sidewalk, the kids rushed to our front door.
IT WAS A GREAT RESPITE from politics. We were sooooo thankful for that.
I WALKED AROUND THE STORE earlier AND FOUND SOME GREAT spirits and beers to write about today, love that : always something ' new and exciting! '
Matt Herde , director of ROGUE VINTNER that sells us  ( with Eric Platt ) the Kiwi MATAKANA ESTATE Marlborough, New Jealand wines like the 2014 Pinot Noir, $23.49.
It was great to see you Matt. You walked in saying something like , and wearing a big smile : " Remember me, I still get your store email and read it, I used to come in with Robert Whale and Eric Platt selling you the western Australian wines of #PLANTAGENET . " I loved that, remembered it all, and we called Robert Whale just then and spoke to him : the circle of life, love it. Thanks Matt, great to see you again. You are welcome here anytime.
With Danielle Davidowitz of Dionysos Imports I just got to meet Aussie winemaker David Baverstock with Herdade Do Esporao and the Quinta Dos Murcas : a real treat. David is from the Barossa Valley in South Australia, and married a Portuguese lady and so has been in Portugal now for 33 years, making wines in these two estates for many years. We have carried them here, too. I LOVED the
1) Herdao Do Esporao 2015 Monte Velho white, Alentejo, $11.99, that we have sold, ... 2) Herdade Do Esporao 2013, Reserva Red, from Alentejo, too , $28.99, like a lovely Rhone red : creamy-dreamy-silky, spoke to me immediately, medium-bodied, a real pleasure ...
3)Quinta Dos Murcas 2010 Reserve Red, Duoro, $47.99, young, tight, gritty, some rough edges that are from the youth of this wine, still needs many years to evolve and grow into itself! Buy that one and wait!
ALSO : ' new ' Discovery today :
1) " T " indigenous Trincadeira 100% dry red from Alentejo, $16.49 a bottle, I immediately warmed to this, lighter, more acidity, more lively and nervous on some levels, too : chill like a Loire Valley Cabernet Franc, a delight : very versatile!
WHAT A TREAT, loved meeting you David, thanks, obregado for stopping by!
BUT NOW moving forward with what we currently have :

HAPPY TUESDAY ALL ..   IT was  an Indian Summer through yesterday, I gardened in our front yard working on our flower bed, planting two delicate-colored green-white lavender plants, side-by-side, to weather the elements together, like many of us do, a team, a couple, working for a better world,  and so much more ...
LIFE IS GOOD, even with all our political uncertainty we still have to find strength and happiness, a positive spin to enough things to continue and not collapse with worry and stress and grief, anxiety that hurts and wounds us so!

We can all drink some of this now and on the 8th of November 2016 after we see the results of our next Presidential election.
BUT , BEING POSITIVE, my eyes searched further and landed on the ...
2)UNIBROUE Canadian " Ephemere ' , an ale made on it's lees ( sediment that is stirred back into the ale as it ages gracefully and gradually, thus imparting more flavor back into this golden ale elixir ).
